Most Frequently Asked Questions About Vulvodynia

  • Most Frequently Asked Questions About Vulvodynia

Miami acupuncture treatmentsI am often asked about treatments for Vulvodynia.  Listed below are some of the most common questions I’m routinely asked:

How soon after I start treatment will I notice improvement of my discomfort?

This is a great question because this may vary from one person to the next.

After starting any acupuncture treatment, one may notice immediate changes in their energy level first of all, and then in their original symptoms.  The first 72 hours after every treatment is most important because this is when most of your changes may take place. There may be a change in the location and sensation of the pain or discomfort. The original spot may shrink or temporarily expand. I always inform my patients to be aware of subtle changes even in appetite and sleep patterns during these initial 72 hours.

Where do you put the needles?

This is another common question, and I am glad to answer it. Most often a patient will come in for back pain for example, and it is common to insert an acupuncture needle into the area of pain. However, this is not always necessary. When treating Vulvodynia, Vestibulitis or any other pelvic discomfort, I address it from its root cause. There are many ways to do this. There are many paths one can take to reach the same place. The needles may be inserted in the arms, legs, and abdominal area. This eases most women to answer this particular question since the area of their pain is extremely sensitive. Above all, the treatment should be a positive experience for the patient who we want to make well again.

How many treatments will I need?

I wish I had a Crystal Ball to answer this particular question every time it is asked.

What I do know for sure is that once we initiate change of symptoms in the body, which begin to occur within the first 72 hours, we are headed in the direction of restoration. That is exactly where we want to go. We aim for the Curative Response in every treatment. The Curative Response is the sign the body shows us when it is moving in a Curative direction. In the Curative direction, we see better energy levels, clear mind, emotional stability, reduction of pain and reduction or amelioration of the discomfort. We also see better assimilation of everything we eat and drink. We have better digestion. When we start to see these signs, we understand that persistent everyday treatment is not necessary.
